Your first step is earning your Open Water Diver certification — becoming what is commonly known as a “certified diver.” Even if you’ve previously taken part in introductory scuba experiences (commonly known as “resort courses”), you are most likely aware that the best opportunities in diving await those who are fully certified.
In this section, we answer frequently asked questions about learning to dive. Nevertheless, if you have a question this section doesn’t answer, just call, e-mail or visit us. We will be happy to answer it!

Who can learn? Do you have to be an adult? Will common medical conditions disqualify you from diving? Is it important to be an athlete or a competitive swimmer? Fortunately, the answer to all these questions is generally "No." Just about any reasonably healthy person, 10 years or older can learn to dive. The pool sessions (a.k.a. confined-water) involve helping you improve swimming skills and fitness for diving. |

Where do you learn? The classroom and pool sessions take place at Rhea's Diving in our on-site classrooms and indoor, heated pool. What options are available for open-water training? From May through October (weather dependent) we offer local checkout dives at two of the commercially designed dive sites: Loch Low-Minn or Philadelphia quarries. During the Winter months we offer long-weekend checkout trips to Florida. If you've already planned a trip we can arrange a referral checkout dive at your destination. |

|
|
What equipment will you need? Our Beginning classes are all-inclusive and no equipment is required to be purchased. However, most students enjoy having their own personal gear including a mask, open-heel fins and snorkel. Let one of our professionally trained staff members insure that your equipment fits correctly and comfortably. |
