Meet our Swimming Instructors:

Amanda Lane:

"I have always loved the water and made it a huge part of my life.  From being on swim teams to water skiing, I have always found a way to compete and be around the water.  In high school, I was told " to get a job" and chose Lifeguard certification, working at pools during the Summer, teaching swim lessons part-time, and guarding pool parties here at Rhea's Diving.  During that time I became SCUBA certified and have enjoyed diving ever since.  That was 1998 and my love for the water still hasn’t changed!  I have dove in various local quarries and springs in Florida.  However, my favorite dive is in the Florida Keys (Islamorada).  I have also snorkeled in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Turks and Caicos, and Mexico where I would have dove but didn’t have a dive buddy!  I worked as a Lifeguard and taught swim lessons while going to UT for 5 years where I earned a Masters Degree in Teacher Education.  I am currently pursuing my EDS degree at LMU.  So, during the day I’m a 3rd grade school teacher and in the evening a swim lesson teacher!  My experience includes coaching the Heritage high school swim team for 3 years and William Blount’s swim team for 2 years.  I have always enjoyed teaching swim lessons and feel it is so important to know how to swim.  Water is everywhere so it is critical to be familiar and know what to do around and in the water.  I teach beginning basic skills to working on the correct way to do strokes.  Sometimes students simply work on just getting their face wet while others learn flip turns and strokes.  We have students as young as 6 months to a gentleman who was 76!  Anytime is a good time to learn!"
